Availia believed that Theo deserved the best things in the world. It all made sense in her mind. Wonderful people deserved wonderful things and as far as Theo was concerned, well, he was the most wonderful one of all. She hadn’t really put much thought into how he would react to her little confession. The furthest she’d gone with the plan in her head was telling him how she felt. And then what? He would probably say something along the lines of being flattered and how that was nice and all but he wasn’t interested. The sad part of it all was that she knew she wouldn’t blame him if that were his response. She’d been acting differently for over two weeks now. Ava didn’t know what was worse. The fact that she was well aware of her recent change in attitude or that she could no longer bring herself to smile for everyone and pretend that things were still the same.
“Theo!” she said sounding almost her normal cheery self in that brief moment. She half-smiled before giving him a small nod as a response. Availia walked down the hall with him in silence for a few minutes before finally deciding to speak. “I know you’re probably wondering why I asked to see you,” she started before drifting off. Things had played out a lot more smoothly in her head. Now that she actually had to get the words out there, she found herself at a complete loss. “Um. It sort of has to do with what we did the other day and you know stuff before that.” She glanced over at him before focusing her gaze straight ahead. “This wasn’t the way I had expected any of this to happen…at all. And I hope it doesn’t make things super weird because I really don’t think I could handle anything weird right now. Which is a bit selfish on my part, I mean, it’s not just about me. It involves you as well,” she said and looked at him apologetically. “Say something?”
The quiet was nearly deafening to him, their footsteps echoing around the halls, and he was about to speak up or reach out; stop and beg for her to explain what she wanted to say, what she wanted to tell him, because the silence and the anticipation was slowly eating away at him; causing a small ache to form in his chest, his heart pounding against his ribs. But he startled out of his hesitance when she began speaking, nodding when it was deemed appropriate and listened, just listened and waited for what she had to say.
His eyes widened when she referenced to the other day, a warmth traveling to his cheeks and blossoming there, feeling more like a young school girl than an eighteen year old boy. “I— uh, I’m not too sure what I’m supposed to say,” he began carefully. “I’m afraid it’s riding all on what you… thought of the other day,” he explained, running a hand through his ginger hair once more. “I’m just… what’re you trying to tell me, Ava?” He asked, stopping her with a gentle hand on her shoulder; the soft, warm skin of her neck brushed by the pad of his thumb, and his brows furrowing.
